About Our Mission
A community-driven volunteer initiative to maintain and enhance Blizzard's legacy games
Our Story
The Blizzard Legacy Game Volunteer Platform was inspired by the challenges faced by legacy Blizzard games since Microsoft's acquisition of Blizzard/Activision. As support for beloved titles like StarCraft 2 has become more difficult and expensive to maintain, we aim to create a community-driven solution.
Our proposal is simple: establish a "Blizzard Legacy Game Volunteer Platform Manager" position who can identify, prioritize, and assign issues affecting legacy games to qualified community volunteers, while facilitating code reviews and integration of community contributions.
Our goal is to eventually become a formal Blizzard entity, creating a structured volunteer program similar to an internship.
We recognize that this initiative may still require resources from Blizzard for management and oversight. If necessary, we're prepared to explore crowdfunding options to support these roles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our volunteer program and how you can contribute.
Do I need prior game development experience?
While game development experience is helpful, it's not required. Strong C++ skills and a willingness to learn are the most important qualifications. We provide mentoring and guidance for contributors new to game development.
How much time do I need to commit?
We have opportunities with varying time commitments, from small bug fixes that might take a few hours to larger features that could span several weeks. You can choose projects that fit your schedule.
Is this officially associated with Blizzard Entertainment?
No, this is a community-driven volunteer initiative and is not officially affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard Entertainment. We're fans and developers working to support the game we love.
What do I get from volunteering?
Volunteers gain professional experience with a major game codebase, mentorship from experienced developers, networking opportunities, and the satisfaction of contributing to a game enjoyed by millions. We also provide reference letters for contributors with significant involvement.
